Lina has always wanted a seashell resin toilet ever since she saw one in an estate sale house. I’ve always forgot about it, but she reminded me at the right time this year.
I found a vintage one on ebay and Lina had a lot of questions about the package when it was delivered. I think she forgot about it and I was able to work cleaning and replacing the hardware when she was out and about.
It turns out the new hardware didn’t quite match the existing pieces, so I had to mix and match new and old hardware, which meant over an hour of cleaning and polishing. I started putting it together and the toilet seat split when I put in the last screw. It turns out that the new screws were a 1/4″ longer than the originals and I didn’t notice.
It was too close to Christmas to fix or replace, so I wrapped it up and planned to mount this one on the wall and have her pick out another one. Then I was off the hook when I found the Demonoyo mask from the Philippines.
Turns out Lina liked the one I bought the best, so we epoxied it back together and I spent another couple of hours polishing it to “good enough”.
The toilet seat now matches the walls.
