At this point, the timeline is a mess. We’ve been to Tiki Oasis, C.A.T.T., and Ohana and want to step up our game now that we’ve joined the FOM. Things are happening and people are asking us for photos of our bar, but we haven’t been taking any. So the following pictures represent our progress in 2019, but many were taken much later…including some pictures by Tiki Tom-Tom when he was only at 27-something bars.
We host movie nights in the tiki room and here’s the setup during one of those nights.
I just joined the FOM, so I made some torches as one of my first Motu Nui merits.
And then Lina re-arranged the wall and started adding to it.
We found this vintage beaded curtain as deadstock in a vintage store in Edmonton, AB. We should have bought more, but we came up with something better, as you’ll see later on.
Shelf space is a problem when your tiki bar is all windows. So we covered up an annoying beam with a shelf that runs the entire length. I didn’t plan on lighting it, so the LED strip was hastily put behind everything. This collection was mostly obtained in 2019 before I had to put a stop to the tiki mug purchases.
Lina started hanging things beneath the beam, including these fantastic coconut fish we bought from a craftsman in Maui.
Lina also wanted some Filipino flair, so we have a lot of Filipino items, including a collection of wall hangings and busts.
The collection also started moving outside the tiki room
We used to take an annual trip to Hawaii, so we collected an entire set of wooden akua from a carver on Maui, including one we had to special order and another a friend found at an estate sale from the same carver.
One of our dogs was having trouble reaching the floor, so I got another Motu Nui carving merit making an elevated platform that I tried to match with the Witco bar.
Tiki was expanding to the backyard as well.
And Waterfall 4.0 included a much larger pond at the base along with some goldfish.
