We went to Tiki Oasis 2018 in beautiful San Diego. This has long been on my (Lina) bucket list of things to do and see. I liked it way more than I thought I would. Thought it would be way too crowded, noisy, etc., but it actually added to the excitement for once. I loved seeing all the artists, the many symposiums, and the vendors all in one place.
In our downtime we went to many tiki bars in the San Diego area; Grass Skirt, False Idol, Kindred (not tiki, but had some good drinks), Miss B’s Coconut Club (meh), Fairweather Rooftop Bar (not tiki by itself, but again really good tiki drinks)
We learned how to make raffia flowers, fake bamboo, black paper and colored pencil drawings that simulate black velvet paintings, and how to make a better home tiki bar.
We went to a Blacklight Room Party. The hosts wore body paint that made them look like a black velvet painting.
We went to a Miami Vice Room Party.
We went to the Grass Skirt.
We went to Bali Hai and visited some other spots on Shelter Island
Cabana Strut – I made Chris a cabana set especially for this event. His event was fun! My Aloha Caftan Society was more fun online than the in-person parade. I missed the picture taking opportunity because I was shopping. Then I didn’t talk with anyone at the parade. I should’ve gone to Mike Skinner’s symposium on SeaWorld instead! Damnit!
