Sundays:
If you ever find yourself in Blytheville, AR or anywhere else like it, don’t ever go into any eating establishment no matter how casual it seems on the outside or what kind of food they serve without your Sunday best on. You will never feel so out of place. We walked into Dixie Pig, a local BBQ joint in B-ville last Sunday afternoon, I was wearing jeans and a peasant blouse and Chris was wearing an ol’ stained collared shirt that he wears when doing errands and traveling. I never felt so naked in my life. Everyone there knew we hadn’t been to church and that we were SINNERS! There was a Sonic Drive-In right next door and I’ll bet if we’d peeked inside the cars we would’ve seen them dressed up too.
Another word of advice, don’t go to Dixie Pig. The food was right up there with our Chinese Valentine’s Day dinner. We expected to find good BBQ this close to Memphis. Dixie Pig only does BBQ on Thursdays and Saturdays. All other days it’s its regular menu and then it’s nearly pork everything on the menu (this is where we understood how they got their name) The other thing on the menu was Fried Chicken. Chris got a Big Dixie Pig Sandwich and I got the regular. The sandwich is pulled pork on a bun with some dry coleslaw on top. The BBQ sauce is served on the table and it’s all oil and vinegar with some spices rolling around in it. Chris found something that tasted ok. The onion rings are homemade and they use fresh onions.
