The nature around St. Petersburg is amazing. The second day we were there we saw a pod of dolphins playing in the water outside of our motel. We went to three nature parks in St. Petes.
Weedon Island Preserve – was ok, the elevated walkways over the swamp were cool. Didn’t see a lot of wildlife though. Should’ve rented a couple of kayaks and paddled through the water.
It took us two days to get to Boyd Hill Preserve, but when we finally found it it was great and cheap! Two dollars to enter and two dollars to take the tram tour. We were the only two people on the golf cart and received the full attention from our tour guide. We got to see the entire park and learned about all the different ecological areas of the park, the animals and the flora.
There are alligators all over St. Petes, but we only saw them at Sawgrass State Park. Also saw my first LIVE armadillo, not squashed on the side of the road!
