We were supposed to go to a Mardi Gras party and participate with a little mini float parade. It all fell apart at the last minute, but we had already put the work into the costumes.
Lina finished her mermaid outfit:
I added some gold trim to a Burning Man coat and then made a reversible cape with a gold sequin side and a green velvet-like lining and purple trim. I had planned to machine sew the sides together, but I hadn’t figured out that:
- you’re not supposed to sew sequins until you strip from the edges,
- I had the needle in backwards,
- the thread tension wasn’t strong enough, and
- the fancy cone thread feeder kept dropping the thread.
Stripping the sequins turned out to be a major pain in the ass, so I ended up hand sewing the entire thing, which made a mess of my hands. Turned out Ok, though.
