This is a good trip if you are just passing through South Dakota on the I-90.I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone without elementary school-age children in tow or a deep deep sense of patriotism. There just didn’t seem enough to do up there. We arrived about 3:30pm and had a nap at the trailer before heading up mtn.By the time we got up the sun was behind the mountain and it was difficult to take any pictures. Our neighbor suggested returning at 9pm when they turn on the lights on the mountain. What he didn’t tell us was that there was a 30 minute long lightingceremony with a recorded soundtrack. There’s a lot of patriotic talk and singing that we happily escaped by hanging out in one of the giftshops. The lights came on as the national anthem started playing.People stood up started taking pictures and then starting leaving while the national anthem was still playing!I couldn’t believe it.
The best part of the trip was seeing this wild turkey and her babies cross the street.
