Got into Melbourne late afternoon. We’re in China town again!
Day 13 Sept. 26th Our travel agent booked us on the Echidna Walkabout tour. Damn you Koalas!! Paul, our poor tour guide tried valiantly to spot one of these elusive creatures for us for most of the tour in You Yangs Regional Park, but we never saw one. Luckily, we saw some at Featherdale in NSW. The eucalyptus forests were pretty cool but it was tiring to look up into all those trees. We stopped for lunch and had sandwiches, Australian cookies and billy tea. Paul explained to us that a billy is a tin can used to make soup and tea in the outback. He threw some tea and eucalyptus leaves into the pot and brewed a nice pot for us. He also explained some of the words of Waltzing Matilda. Went to Serendip Park and walked around some more. I snuck up on a wild emu and watched a mob of kangaroos bounce around.
Day 14 Sept 27th We had breakfast at Cake World again. Then we walked to Queen Victoria Market. It’s a huge flea market selling clothes, household goods and souvenirs. They also had fresh fruit, vegetables and meat and fish markets. We had lunch at the food court and then caught the free tram home. At dinner we walked back into China town found a Japanese restaurant and had a great Unadon bowl (BBQ eel and rice bowl). So much better than what I usually get in the States!! Wow.
