We spent two nights in Maracas Beach on the north side of the island. The drive down here was a little scary. More twists than the Road to Hana and the road was very narrow only allowed 1 to 1.5 cars on at a time. Twice we came around a blind bend in the road to find a car in front of us, half-way off the road, with a guy rinsing the car with a water bottle filled by a small waterfall nearby. WTF?! You can’t do this in front of your house like a normal person? Finally got to Maracas Beach, checked in and walked to the beach for some Bake and Shark.
Our vulture friends were already up and hanging out on the beach when I woke up at sunrise. Our landlord Maury brought us some spicy chow (hot peppers and fresh fruit) for breakfast
The only sad part of our whole trip was coming back from the beach and finding a dog that crawled under our landlord’s car to die. Chris went upstairs to tell him to please remove the dog’s body before he got in his car to leave. Maury didn’t believe Chris though and said the dog was only sleeping. He proceeded to set off his car alarm several times to try to scare the dog off. Finally some people in the street confirmed that the dog was indeed not alive. We stayed inside until the rest of the day after that.
