Kailua is by far my favorite beach on Oahu. On our second and third trip to the beach we arrived early to set up camp under one of the many tamarisk trees that line the beach and shield the land from the heavy winds that blow through occasionally.
The beach is protected from the bigger waves of the ocean by a reef way out in the distance. The water in the bay is shallow and a lovely warm bath water temperature. When it is windy, you’ll see windsurfers and kite surfers making their way across the bay. Chris and I tried out a stand up paddleboard for the day. We also rented a two person kayak and paddled out to an island in the bay.
After Chris left Hawaii, we had a picnic on the beach. Saw our first sea turtles here too. Lynne and Paul had a good time getting sunburnt.
