After our action packed day, it was time to slow down. Too bad it was still a Japanese holiday and everyone decided to visit the Nishiki Market.
I was thinking to myself that I hadn’t tried a non-convenience store egg salad sandwich and a cute little shop appeared on the walk to the market. I bought a variety of two different sandwiches. The fried egg sandwich half contained the most delicate eggs I’ve ever eaten. They weren’t made from milk bread, so I guess I’ll have to be on the lookout for more 🙂
The street in Nishiki Market was very narrow and claustrophobic, so we walked through it as fast as we could. So fast that we didn’t see some friends headed in the opposite direction. Luckily, they saw us and we were able to chat for a bit before we all meet back up in Tokyo.
We survived the market and found ourselves in my favorite shopping area in Japan so far. Most places are chock-full of international brands, but this one had mostly local shops and brands. Lina looked at some fancy jackets, we found a record shop that had a 45 with our jukebox on the cover, I finally bought something in Japan to take home (a marking knife for woodworking), and Lina got a vintage kimono. We looked at the time and a local craft cocktail bar was opening soon, so we decided to walk in that direction.
We happened to see another fancy jacket store and Lina bought the fancy jacket she was looking for. The owner of the shop recommended that we we go to a funky little restaurant down the road, so we headed there. The shop was very cute, but only sold one dish that looked soupy in the pictures. So I decided to try another restaurant, but I saw the beautiful omelette-looking dish come out of the kitchen and decided that I wanted some of that. So we sat back down and asked them to make it without any seafood. It was delicious and exactly what I was looking for in the moment. And we got to put another Jungle Flower sticker on the wall.
We finished the night with some wonderful craft cocktails at Bar Ixey and I had absinthe for the first time. We tried to go to another recommended bar, but they had 15 people already on the waiting list 20 minutes after they opened, so we headed home. The Uber-esque Go app is great, but the taxi drivers always stop a block away from our actual location every time. So this time we had to cross the street to find the taxi. But he was able to follow the GPS and get us home. We saw a store named Lina as we were driving off, but couldn’t get the shot. Next time.
My Garmin says we went 5.77 miles, but I definitely forgot to turn it on for at least a mile.
