Our first trip to Japan started with United business class seats that lay flat. That is the best way to fly! It didn’t even feel like it was a 12 hour flight. The dinner was amazing as well.
We landed in Japan and decided to brave the train during rush hour, which turned out to be OK because we were taking an express train and there were many other people with bags on it as well. The last train I was on was in New York, and the difference between the two couldn’t have been greater. The Japanese train was super-clean and quiet.
We hauled or luggage up three or flour flights of stairs at the train station and took a short walk to our first room, which was called the Geisha Experience because the neighborhood we were staying in was apparently a Geisha district in the past.
We dropped off our stuff, had a quick shower, then headed to the skytree shopping center for some people watching. It was all very fascinating, but not as weird as I thought it would be.
We crashed pretty quickly and then headed back to the apartment. It was decorated beautifully…but I found out that satin sheets are a major pain. Two pillows on top of each other just slide apart and then they both slid off the bed. A pillow folded in half just slid back to flat after a short time. Finally, I had to wrap a t-shirt off around one pillow so it would stay under may head.
The beds are pretty small in japan, so I rolled out one of the futon beds and slept on it for the first night. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
Ready for Day 1 !
