Now that Lina has her new Nissan Leaf, we had to decide what we were going to do with her old Mini Cooper. Now that we have the torque-monster in the great Dale, we thought that we may be able to tow the Mini behind the Great Dale when we went on trips.
The installation place wanted something like $3-4,000 to get the Mini ready, so I decided to try and install everything myself. Luckily for me Lina never got the fog light option for the Mini, so I was able to use the spare rear fog lights for the Great Dale brake and signal lights. I was also able to use one of the front fog light spots for the breakaway switch.
We made a trial trip to Cherry Creek State Park Campground for a night to see how it works. The torquemaster can definitely pull the Mini, but there were a couple of stability issues that may be a problem in the future. All in all, it was a pretty good first run and we’ll see how it works in the long run. I’m especially interested in the difference in mpg between the Great Dale solo and pulling the Mini. But we probably won;t get that info till the end of the season.
The campground was great because some deer apparently call it home as you can see in the pics taken from our campsite.
