Day Three, Sept. 16 Our full-day tour of the Blue Mountains and Australian wildlife began at 7:30am. We took a small coach ride to our 46 person large coach ride. We were picked up at the Star Casino and whisked off to Leura, a small village in the Blue Mountains. The mountains look blue in the distance because of the eucalyptus oil in the air. We stopped at a couple of scenic overlooks before heading to Scenic World. It’s an old coal mine converted into a tourist attraction. The coal cars were redesigned to hold passengers. We took a tram car back to the top of the mountain. After our tour of the mountains we drove out to Featherdale Wildlife Park. All of the animals in the park have been injured in some way and cannot be re-introduced to the wild. So they all stay here and other wildlife parks. Here were my favorite animals; cockatoos, kookaburras, red flying foxes, the chiming wedgebill (a small brown bird with a very loud and catchy tune) I got to feed the Tasmanian Devil! He was so hungry, poor little guy. The ghost bats were cool too. Funny but these little white bats were carnivorous (they ate baby chicks), but the much scarier-looking and bigger flying foxes were fruit eaters. Our driver convinced us and the rest of the tour to take a river cruise back to the city instead of riding on the coach. The Captain Cook cruise of Parramatta River took us all the way to Circular Quay. We walked back to our hotel in China Town and stopped for pho up the street. Tasty.
