Our friends Tina and Steve invited us to join them and few others to see the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. We got to see our friends the night before (and discovered a great tiki bar in downtown Albuquerque) and then only managed to talk to them a few times on the phone. We kept missing each other. Chris and I were parked south of the city with the Great Dale. Everyone else was staying in a hotel in town.
The morning balloon races and Mass Ascension were cancelled due to wind the first day. We went to the evening’s events anyway and were very happy we did. The fireworks were some of the best we had ever seen. Ever see a happy face firework explosion? Neither had we! It was fantastic. Just when we thought the show was over, more fireworks started off to our left and when we thought that was over, it started back up to our right. There was live music too. It more than made up for the bad time we had with the shuttle (missed the last shuttle by 20 minutes).
We were leaving Sunday morning and saw the balloons taking off. It is a magical sight.
