Burning Man is popular enough to create some regional events that are essentially mini-Burning Man events across the globe.
We have one in Colorado called Apogaea, which describes itself as:
“Apogaea is a collaborative outdoor arts, music, and camping experience held in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Here you will find an experiential forum where our ever-expanding community practices freedom of expression in an environment of participation, sharing, and creativity. We invite you to join us in a place where our spirits are as high as the mountains and our minds are as wide open as the plains.”
I meant to go to Apogaea 2015, but is was cancelled due to some local politics between land-owners. I figured this would be the perfect time because there would be twice the amount of art and the Great Dale was working great.
Well…the great Dale broke down the weekend before, which kiboshed my plans until some of my camp-mates loaned my a tent and other camping gear that I would need for the four day event.
I was camping with Mega Fun Flying Balls Camp that was supposed to have a Japanese Game Show theme. We had the following games and attractions:
- I tried to make a Giant Jenga game, but by the time I got the 2x4s smooth, it turned into medium-sized Jenga that people could draw on. The people who did draw on them attempted to turn it into a sex position game.
- Lina and I made some giant pugil sticks for people to try and whack each other off a 8×8 line.
- A couple of camp-mates made a Cornhole game where we used Winnie the Pooh dolls and Poo shaped bean bags that Lina sewed together.
- A couple of other camp-mates made a tennis ball target-shooting range
- The Same team made zipline bowling that was introduced at Elsewhence last year
- I brought a water bottle rocket we never used
- The Toxic Bar that served mixed drinks from bleach, windshield washer fluid, mouthwash, anti-odor, and bleach bottles. The bar was 100% constructed with found alley wood.
- The Orgasmitron (The upright blue tube above). You climb inside and get misted while someone turns the crank to blow air around you as the sound of ocean waves crashes around you.
Here are some pictures generously donated by other attendees. (I never picked up a camera then entire weekend)
